Immersive Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Biosensing technologies are converging. This convergence will transform healthcare by dramatically improving clinical assessments and personalizing clinical care.
Decades of academic and clinical research have demonstrated and elaborated the various ways that Immersive (XR) technology enables innovative methods to address the most challenging problems in healthcare, disorders such as anxiety, depression, addiction, autism, cognitive aging, stroke recovery, attention disorders, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, and chronic pain.
When combined with AI and Biosensing systems, XR and related technologies offer new methods for conducting clinical assessments, making them significantly more objective and functional. XR systems can also improve clinical care and promote personal health and wellness by providing new methods to improve adherence, support healthy lifestyles, and reduce stress and anxiety.
The ability to readily obtain objective and functional measurements of cognitive, emotional, and physical status will directly impact and galvanize both basic and clinical research, providing new methods to personalize clinical care.
Immersive XR systems are expediting medicine’s evolution from clinic-centered to telemedicine-based care, enabling truly personalized treatment approaches. In addition to its impact on clinical care, medical training will be transformed through XR-powered simulation-based learning, enhancing surgical skills, procedure planning, and the utilization of medical device technology.
As healthcare costs continue to rise, this technological convergence will establish next-generation telemedicine platforms that reduce delivery costs, improve clinical efficiency, and extend quality care to previously underserved populations.
