From Digital Divide to AI Divide, an Optimistic View

Fireside Chat

For thousands of years, teachers provided content, explained context, and taught critical thinking alongside interpersonal skills. The internet made content universally accessible. Now AI can explain context and connections between concepts. This frees teachers to focus on developing critical thinking, questioning skills, debate, and collaboration.

Good teachers will also build AI literacy – helping students develop intuition about when to use AI, how to evaluate outputs, and how to leverage it for creating their own fully personalized solutions.

The Digital Divide was about access to expensive machines and connectivity. The AI Divide is about mindset and skills. This gap can close faster – and when it does, we all benefit.
