Martin is the creator of Google’s Effective Founders Project, a global research program that uses people analytics to identify what makes top startup founders succeed. He shares these insights worldwide. Martin has led leadership courses for thousands of tech startup founders in over 70 countries, including the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe. He frequently lectures on entrepreneurship, organization design, and people analytics at Stanford, Wharton, and INSEAD. Martin is also the author of the bestseller The Bonfire Moment: Bring Your Team Together to Solve the Hardest Issues Startups Face, which became a national bestseller in the U.S. in May 2024. Thinkers50, known as the “Oscars of management thinking” by the Financial Times, recognized it as one of the best new management books.
At Google, Martin is a principal in organization and leadership development. He works with Google’s senior leaders to build strong team cultures, grow their people, and expand leadership skills. Over the past decade, he has worked with teams across Google Research, DeepMind, Technology & Society, Responsible AI, Pixel, Fitbit, YouTube, Search, Maps, Android, and Chrome.
In 2023, Martin was named a First Movers Fellow by the Aspen Institute for his pioneering work. In 2024, he was included on the Thinkers50 Radar List, which highlights emerging thinkers shaping the future of management.
Before Google, Martin worked as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group and as a product manager at Johnson & Johnson. He studied organizational psychology and behavioral science at Columbia University and the London School of Economics.
Originally from Manila, Martin has lived in New York, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, and now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Bea and their three children: Noelle, Jaime, and Andrea.
